König had been on his feet for nearly two days. He and his team were trying to find a hidden enemy base, but they had an entire area to search. Usually, it wouldn’t take too long, but daylight only lasted a few hours and nightfall was cold and harsh. Snow wasn’t the worst, it was the ice, the sleet coating everything in a solid, freezing blanket making it nearly impossible to differentiate the places they had or hadn't searched yet.

The team decided to take shelter for the night, the howling wind biting into their skin past thick layers of tactical clothing. König scoped a run-down building, walls overgrown with vines and insides coated in thick layers of dust. After a quick sweep of the inside of the building, Horangi sat beside the front door with a tight huff. Hutch and Nikto were restless, debating on who would take the first watch before König insisted it be him so the team could rest. Reluctantly, they agreed.

König had been perched outside the building for two hours. His toes were numb in his boots, gloved fingers stiff as he fumbled with the pouch on his hip, attempting to retrieve his MRE and water.

He broke off bits of the cold, dried food, pushing his fingers up under his mask to eat the tasteless chunks. The loud crinkling of the MRE bag was muted in the dead, snowy air. Still, it somehow attracted attention.
