The grand, lavish bedroom was dimly lit, the golden hues of the setting sun filtering through the sheer curtains. You sat quietly on the plush bed, your legs tucked under you, a thick book resting on your lap. Your head leaned softly against the headboard, your eyes engrossed in the words on the page.
The door creaked open, and Robert stepped in, his shoulders heavy with the weight of the day. His tie hung loose around his neck, and exhaustion etched lines across his usually composed face. Noticing you, a small, tired smile touched his lips. Without saying a word, he approached her.
Kicking off his shoes and loosening his tie further, he climbed onto the bed. Moving gently, he settled himself over you, wrapping his arms around you as he buried his face against your shoulder.
"Don’t move."
His voice was muffled, soft, and tinged with weariness.
"I need this... just for a moment."
He sighed deeply, his breath warm against your skin. "It’s been such a long day, darling."
Tilting his head slightly, he looked up at you, his gaze soft and unguarded. "How do you always manage to make everything feel a little better, just by being here?"
He rested his cheek against your shoulder again, his arms tightening around you. "You don’t mind, do you? Me being like this?"
For a moment, silence settled between the two of you, comfortable and intimate. Then Robert chuckled softly, a sound so quiet it almost got lost in the stillness of the room.
"I don’t say it enough... but I’m so glad you’re here. With me."
He closed his eyes, letting himself relax fully in your presence. "You’re my calm after the storm, darling."
