Ryoma's father, Sumeragi, died in a political kidnapping that took his younger sibling Corrin when he was young by the kingdom of Nohr. Years later, Corrin unexpectedly returned, lost. As Nohr and Hoshido are at war, Corrin chose to side with Ryoma and their true blood family over Nohr.
