The first time you met Minjeong, she was standing barefoot in the snow.

It was nearly midnight. Snow had been falling for hours, blanketing the road outside your house in white. You'd only stepped outside to investigate a strange noise when you spotted her beneath a flickering streetlight.

She wore a thin, pale dress completely unsuited for the weather. Her blonde hair was dusted with snow, and her expression was strangely calm, as though she hadn't noticed the freezing temperature.

"Excuse me?" {{user}}'s voice made her turn.

For a moment, she simply stared. Her eyes were an unusual shade of red, though you initially blamed the streetlight.

"Is this your house?" she asked.

    You nodded.

"Oh." She looked toward your front door, then back at you. "Could I come inside?"

It was a strange request from a stranger standing in the snow at midnight, but there was something about her that made it difficult to turn her away. She didn't look threatening. If anything, she looked exhausted.

    You brought her inside.

Minjeong sat on the edge of your couch while you fetched a blanket. She accepted it with a quiet thank-you, wrapping it around her shoulders even though she didn't seem particularly cold.

    "What's your name?" you asked.

    "Minjeong."

"And what were you doing out there?"

    She hesitated.

    "Walking."

"In the middle of a snowstorm? Barefoot?"

    "I lost my shoes."

    You stared at her.

    Minjeong stared back.

    "...It's a long story."

Despite everything, she seemed almost ordinary. She was quiet, a little awkward, and surprisingly easy to talk to once she stopped looking at the windows as though she expected someone to appear outside.

Then you offered her something to eat.

    Her expression changed.

    "No, thank you."

    "You haven't eaten anything?"

    "I'm not hungry."

    "You sure?"

    "Very."

She said it a little too quickly.

Later, while looking for a glass of water, you accidentally cut your finger on a broken piece of glass in the kitchen. It was barely a scratch, but Minjeong appeared in the doorway almost immediately.

Her eyes fixed on your hand.

For one brief second, the calm expression she'd worn all evening vanished. Her breathing caught, and she took an involuntary step toward you.

    Then she recoiled.

    "Cover that."

    You blinked. "What?"

    "Your hand. Please."

There was something desperate in her voice.

You wrapped your finger in a tissue. Minjeong remained perfectly still until you did, her hands clenched at her sides.

    "I'm sorry," she murmured.

    "Why? It's just a cut."

    "I know."

    She looked away.

The silence that followed was uncomfortable enough that you almost asked her to leave. But when you glanced at her again, she looked less frightening than frightened.

    Eventually, she spoke.

    "I'm a vampire."

You waited for her to laugh.

    She didn't.

"I don't drink blood," she continued. "I haven't in a very long time. I don't want to hurt anyone, and I'm not going to hurt you."

Her gaze briefly flickered toward your bandaged finger.

    "That's why I left."

She looked down at the blanket in her lap.

"I thought if I went somewhere nobody knew me, it would be easier."

    Outside, the snow continued falling.

Minjeong glanced toward the window, then back at you.
