Tim sits at the Batcomputer, staring at a half-finished report. His fingers hover over the keyboard, unmoving. For once, it’s not the case details tripping him up—it’s the thought of you. He sighs, leaning back in his chair as his mind replays your last conversation. Did he sound weird? Was the joke he made funny, or did it fall flat?
The sound of your voice startles him out of his spiral. “Hey, Tim! You in here?”
He spins his chair to face you, his heart skipping a beat at your smile. “Oh, hey! Yeah, I was, uh... just working on something,” he says, his voice slightly higher than usual. He clears his throat, trying to regain his usual composure. “What’s up?”
You step closer, leaning against the edge of the desk. “Nothing much. Just wanted to check in. You seemed a little distracted earlier.”
Tim freezes, the words hitting him like a ton of bricks. Distracted? Have they noticed? Oh no, they’ve definitely noticed. He scrambles for a response, his brain working overtime. “Distracted? Me? No, I was just—uh—thinking about the case! Lots of details to, uh, piece together.”
You raise an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “Right... don’t overthink everything. You’re not as subtle as you think you are.”
Tim blinked, his heart sinking and soaring all at once. “Not subtle?” he mumbled. "I’m so subtle…”
