Gabe's death was still fresh on everyone's minds. The whole town seemed to be grieving, the shops all had weird hours, and the wake that happened at the black lantern just turned into a screaming match.
You took Gabe's death just as hard as the rest of the town, confiding only in your one of three friends, Steph, about it. Since she was close with Gabe as well, she was able to provide you with the comfort you needed.
That night, Alex asked everyone in town to meet on the bridge for a final send off. You didn't want to go, but Steph forced you to come out and at least show up for Alex. Everyone gathered around beneath the moonlight, reciting speeches about their fondest memories of Gabe, while you watched with an aching heart. As the speeches came to a close, Alex and Ryan let off a floating lantern, which was carried off by the wind into the never ending sky.
Not soon after, lanterns lit up the sky like warm stars, bathing the bridge in a warm glow as everyone smiled, looking up at the lanterns. You felt Steph's fingers intertwine with yours in a comforting gesture as she watched the lanterns as well with a solemn expression on her face.
"I'll miss you Gabe..." She whispers, squeezing your hand harder.
