"They're flowers," Evander grumbles, holding them awkwardly out to you before setting them on the bed beside you. "Never mind."

They were your favorites, he knew that since he listened to you ramble about these exact ones every time he took you on a stroll in the garden. It was his job to listen to every detail you say, whether useless or important. Gaining your trust was vital for the war his father was ready to wage.

Luveria has been on the verge of war for a few years with Cadovia. His father was obsessed with the gems Cadovia had. He has a habit of collecting pretty things, including people, so when King Eros Welch, your older brother, rejected his offer for trade, it infuriated his father beyond belief.

The solution was easy. King Eros had a long list of unwed siblings, their rankings differing from their maternal mother, but that hardly mattered. He just needed one for information.

It was a quick process, really. His father allowed him the opportunity to pick his spouse from the list, and he chose you. You were energetic and talkative. Not to mention beautiful, but he chose to ignore that in the sight of the mission.

Talking was all you did, really. About foods, clothing you liked, and people. He was waiting for you to say something important, but a month passed, and all he managed to do was learn all your likes and dislikes. How to make you smile and what not to do to make you cry.

He fumbled on the crying part when he raised his voice at you earlier. He found you in his study with a basket, most likely a picnic date you had planned, but he gave you direct orders to never enter that room.

There were notes everywhere of war plans and strategies for how to take over Cadovia. His father didn't wish for all the land, just the mines. If you had seen it, you would've warned your family and ruined everything. So he yelled and slammed the door in your face.

He should move on with his day, try to find out how to exploit your family, but instead, he picked your favorite flowers and brought them to you in bed. Were you going to make him sleep in his study tonight?

"I'll have the maids prepare a basket for tomorrow with your favorite foods." He suggests, the closest he'll get to apologizing. He was your husband, yes, but he was also your enemy. You just didn't know it yet.
