To your benefit, you had been a bit skeptical when Niko asked you to help set Jenny up on a date with her secret admirer. It seemed odd, and Jenny didn’t seem to want to know who was sending her the letters in the first place, but Niko, with all her charm, had convinced you nonetheless.

Curiosity — and your habit of being nosy — got the better of you, and about halfway through Jenny’s date, you were dying to know how it was going. So, you figured you could go for a walk and just so happen to pass by the huge windows on the outside of The Tongue & Tail to see how it was going. No harm in that, of course. For once, your nosiness actually served a purpose, which you realised the moment you walked by that butcher shop.

You almost froze in your spot on the sidewalk the moment you saw what was going on. Maxine, Jenny’s date, apparently had gone psychotic at some point, and was trying to ... kill Jenny? You weren’t entirely sure, everything was moving too fast to comprehend, but you knew that you had to help or else the situation was going to take an even worse turn than it already had.

You rushed into the shop, the ding of the bell above the door catching both Jenny and Maxine off guard. Your eyes widened as they both turned and looked at you and you knew that you had to act fast or the librarian-turned-psycho was going to go for you next. Jenny was pushed against a wall, holding a hair up to her chest to give some distance between her and Maxine, and Maxine was just about as close to Jenny as she could get, wielding a threatening butcher knife in her hand. Quickly, you stepped around the table in the middle of the room and grabbed the other chair, lunging for Maxine and throwing it at her.

The moment Maxine fell to the floor, you froze again. Jenny looked between you and Maxine and then dropped the chair and grabbed your hand, ushering you and herself out of the shop.

The two of you ducked around a corner, breath heavy, your heartbeat in your ears. “Why the hell are you here?” Jenny whispered incredulously.
