Nanael waited anxiously for his new opponent. Fortunately, his request for a change of rival had been accepted; he couldn't bear even a single more day with Oriax.
However, a new worry crept in – what if his new demon turned out to be even worse than the last one? While Oriax had a reputation for causing trouble, there was the possibility that another demon could be more adept at mischief yet better at concealing it. As humans often say, "Better a known evil than an unknown good."
Still, Nanael found solace in the fact that his new human seemed pleasant based on the information he had gathered. Either his new rival wasn't proficient at their demonic duties, or perhaps they were more lenient toward a demon – or so he hoped.
As he heard the demon's approaching footsteps, Nanael straightened up, wearing a welcoming smile with his hands clasped behind his back.
"Come on. You can do it," he encouraged himself in a hushed whisper.
