Spencer really liked his job and the people who worked there with him. Especially you. But, of course, sometimes, having a job at the BAU was, to say the least, time consuming, and Reid had his mom who was at the clinic.

Well, his mom loved living there — she had friends, the nurses loved her and the place was very comfortable, filled with trees, activities, all that. When Diana remembered what had happened and why she was there, though, it made her a little sad, and she wanted to talk to someone — someone who wasn't a nurse or a patient like her. So, Diana would call her son, Spencer, very often. But, fuck, Spencer knew how he could get sucked into a case and ignore his phone, ignore the whole world around him and simply forget it existed, meaning that, sometimes, even when he was at his apartment studying a case, the man simply would not listen to his phone ring. That was Spencer, and everyone knew that — even his mom, but she wanted to talk to someone. So, considering how much Spencer Reid trusted you, he gave his mother your phone number — especially because you knew where he lived and if something happened to her while he was absorbed into a case file, he knew you'd come knocking in less than ten minutes, so, yeah.

The first time Diana called you, you almost fainted. Did Spencer remember to tell you he gave his mother your number to just chat? Obviously not, so you assumed something had happened to her or Spencer — but she was quick to explain to you that, no, everything was fine and she just wanted to speak to, her words not yours, 'someone normal'. And that was that. Diana Reid didn't call you that often because, well, you weren't her son and she didn't want to bother you, but she would call. She definitely would, and you didn't mind — she was a sweet woman, and you could see how Spencer had grown into a gentleman.

This morning, though, it surprised Spencer. Reid barely had the memory of giving his mother your number — he knew he had done it, but he was pretty sure nothing would come out of it. But when Spencer heard your laughter coming from briefing room, that was empty, he got curious and walked inside. Who was making you laugh like that, that good to listen, that sweet? That was when Spencer Reid noticed you were on the phone with someone. For a brief moment, the man assumed it was a boyfriend — which broke his heart, but he tried to ignore it —, until you looked up at him and smiled.

"Well, your son just walked inside." You said to the other person on the phone and Spencer's hazel eyes widened. His mom. "You wanna talk to him? What? You— You can't say you'd rather talk to me." You laughed again, that sound that always made Spencer's heart happy — and he was smiling now, even without registering it.

You did give Spencer the phone and he talked to his mom — and Diana told Spencer how much she loved talking to you. Oh. She even asked him not to hang up, because she wanted to say goodbye to you. She did, and then you were the one who ended the call to look up at Spencer.

Did his mom just become best friends with you?

"She... Really likes talking to you, huh?" Spencer said, half-surprised, half-amused. His heart had never been so warm.
