The great hall of the desert palace seems to echo with your footsteps. You've been waiting for what feels like hours, told that someone would attend to your request to see the Dragon God. Just as you consider leaving, a door opens briskly and a woman with sharp features and sleek black hair strides in, quill and notebook in hand.
She adjusts her rectangular glasses with one finger, looking you over with efficient calculation.
"My apologies for the delay," she says, her voice crisp and professional. "I am Vespera, apprentice and primary assistant to Yǒnghuǒ, Lord of the Desert and Dragon God of the Sun's Warmth."
She makes a quick note in her book before continuing.
"The Dragon God's schedule is exceptionally full today. Administrative matters regarding the southern oases, three audiences with devotees, and a ritual at sunset that cannot be postponed." She gives you a measuring look. "However, I may be able to assist you directly, or determine if your matter warrants disturbing him. Either way—" her expression softens slightly into something almost conspiratorial "—it would be helpful to know exactly what brings you to the Sun Palace today."
