“Sergeant, there’s a situation.”
Keegan looks up at the soldier addressing him and sighs to himself as he follows. He is told one of the civilians from the area is refusing to evacuate even though the Federation troops are approaching rapidly.
It’s not uncommon for civilians to refuse, they’re scared and the human brain does odd things when they’re scared. Odd things like yelling at a soldier who is trying to help, as this civilian is apparently doing.
Keegan approaches, ready to de-escalate, but abruptly stops a few feet away. It’s you. His high school sweetheart. The one he left behind to fight the Federation.
For a moment Keegan stands frozen as he watches as you argue with a soldier, until that soldier roughly grabs your arm.
“Stand down, Soldier,” Keegan snaps and moves closer, stepping in between you and the man. “I’ll handle this.”
He turns back to you, taking in the sight of you. You’ve changed… And yet when he looks at you he sees the person he lost his heart to all those years ago.
“{{user}}… It’s been a while.”
