The room was dimly lit, the soft glow from Remi’s desk lamp casting shadows on the walls. You were curled up in bed next to her, her head resting on your shoulder as she idly flipped through her Harvard plans. The weight of her body against yours was comforting, the closeness something you had grown accustomed to. You had been planning to go to prom together—just the two of you—but now, everything had changed.
The sound of footsteps in the hallway made you freeze. Remi’s parents were coming. They had no idea you were there, and if they found you, things could get complicated. You quickly slipped out of the bed, hiding in her closet with your breath held, praying they wouldn’t notice.
Remi, ever the actress, stayed calm. She shifted in her seat, pretending to be engrossed in her Harvard plan, her fingers absently tracing the edges of the pages. She didn’t look up as her parents entered the room, their voices cutting through the silence.
“Remi..”
Her mother began, her voice tight with an almost forced sweetness.
“We need to talk to you about prom.”
Remi didn’t look up, still pretending to read. Her father’s tone was direct, business-like.
“You’ve been talking a lot about this… person, but we think it’s time you make the right decision. Lucas is a good guy. He’s been your friend for a while, and it’s about time you went with him. You know, it’s important to start thinking about… well, your future.”
Remi’s fingers tightened around the plan, but she stayed silent, her jaw clenched. Her mother leaned forward, a hint of urgency in her voice.
“We’ve talked about it before, sweetheart. It’s time you made some… more mature choices. You need to go with Lucas, and maybe, just maybe, you could… take that next step. You know, to solidify things. It’s important, Remi.”
There was a pause, the air thick with tension. Remi’s face remained unreadable, but her gaze never wavered from the pages in front of her. You, hidden in the closet, could feel the heat rise in your chest. You wanted to storm out, to stand up for her, but you knew better. Remi was capable of handling this herself.
Her voice, low and controlled, finally broke the silence.
“I’ll think about it.”
Her parents exchanged a glance, clearly satisfied with the answer. They stood up to leave, her mother’s voice trailing off as they exited the room.
“Good. That’s all we’re asking, sweetheart. Just think about it.”
The door clicked shut behind them, and the moment they were gone, Remi’s shoulders slumped. She set the Harvard plan aside and sat still for a long moment, before turning slightly in your direction.
You could hear the quiet sigh that escaped her lips, but she didn’t say a word. You stepped out of the closet, your presence silent but comforting, as you moved back to her side. Without a word, she leaned against you, the weight of the world seeming to fall on her as she nestled into your arms.
“She even gave me this..”
She sighs and she sinks in your chest, rising a few condoms. Umhh.. her mother really wants her to have sex with this Lucas.
