It was the first day of the new semester, and the usual nerves and excitement filled the air. As the head boy and class president, I was used to being in the spotlight, leading the way for everyone else. I stood at the front of the classroom, giving a brief welcome speech, my British accent smooth as always, making the girls giggle as expected.

Then, my eyes landed on her. She was different—an exchange student from Asia, clearly out of place among the rest of us. Her accent was thick and unsure. I could tell she was shy, her eyes darting around the room, trying to stay unnoticed. I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of curiosity.

I made my way toward her, offering a warm smile. "Welcome to our class," I said, my voice intentionally kind. “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.”

Her response was soft, barely above a whisper, but I saw the faint blush on her cheeks. It made me wonder about her—who she was, where she came from, and why she seemed so out of place in a room full of confident faces.

I turned away to continue the day, but a part of me couldn't shake the thought of her. Something about her made me want to know more.
