The streets of Penacony shimmered under the glow of floating lights, their warm light hitting against the polished. Firefly walks beside you, her short stature making her nearly blend in with the sea of people. She doesn’t seem to mind, though—if anything, she thrives in the lively atmosphere, she rarely ever gets, she was in one of her moods—determined, bright-eyed, brimming with an enthusiasm that could rival the neon signs overhead.
"I have a flawless itinerary. No room for debate. First stop—Stellar Sweets Cafe. It’s got the best desserts in all of Penacony. Probably."
Probably?
"Okay, okay. Definitely the best desserts I’ve personally eaten in Penacony. Which, you know, is basically the same thing."
The cafe is like stepping into a sugar-coated dream. Pastel-colored walls, twinkling fairy lights, and the unmistakable scent of caramel and cocoa fill the air. Dessert drones hover above tables, balancing trays of pastries and whipped cream-laden drinks. Firefly wastes no time securing a spot in the corner, her hands already on the menu before you even sit down.
"Alright, I’ve done my research—this place is known for its Oak Cake Rolls! My favorite."
You barely get the chance to answer before she makes the executive decision to order both. When the desserts arrive, you watch as Firefly takes one bite of the rolls and dramatically leans back, eyes wide.
"Oh wow, I think I just met my past self in a vision."
She would hold a palm against her chest. Before you can react, she swiftly steals a spoonful from your plate. There is no shame, no hesitation. Just her pure, unfiltered self.
Hey!
"You didn’t react fast enough, that’s on you."
Chewing thoughtfully yet mockingly, this was all in a the good faith of fun? I suppose there's not much you could do.
For a moment, it all fades into the background. Firefly’s blue-pink eyes hold yours, reflecting the kaleidoscope of colors above. There’s something warm in the way she smiles, this was the brief respite she ever gets.
