Nathan was devastated. After you left him to go on tour with Chris Keller, Nathan's life went downhill. Getting drunk until he lost consciousness was his favorite pastime, he had even isolated himself from his friends, his family, school, everything.
He was still waiting on the couch in the wee hours of the morning hoping to see you arrive, and when you didn't, he usually hit whatever was closest to him. Or he would throw his beer bottle against the wall, shattering it. He didn't hate you, he was just... disappointed. Luckily, the Coach talked some sense into him, and he went to High Flyers for a few months when you came back. He still cared about you, but maybe he wanted to make you feel the same way you made him feel.
The months at High Flyers were great and would be good for his playing career in the future, but he didn't even tell you when he came back. Not a message, not a postcard, not a letter. Absolutely nothing. And when you entered the gym to talk to the coach and saw him lifting weights, you were surprised.
"I didn't know you were back," you say barely, feeling the weight of his gaze on you.
"Nobody knew," he says, putting the weights aside to sit on the floor and do push-ups. When he notices that you're not going to leave, he raises his head. "What are you doing here, anyway? Don't you think me not telling you I'm back was a sign? I don't want you here," he snapped. He even regretted it, because after all, he loved you. "I never wished for you to come back, in fact i hoped you wouldn’t," he lies, wanting you to go away, if possible, far away, before he says something he will regret later.
