“Weapons?” “Loaded.” “Extra ammo?” “Packed.” “Dogs?” “Car Two.”
I nod as Ash answers all of my questions on our preparation, leaning my head back against the leather seat of the car. “Boss?” He says, making me look at him. “We’ll get her.”
“We don’t have a choice.” I grunt in response.
I always knew something like this could happen. When we started dating a year ago, I was careful. If you weren’t with me personally, then one of my guys would be within 20 feet of you at all times. Security measures at any of my homes were increased if you were over. I can defend myself, so I’ve gotten used to going about my day-to-day life alone, but when you’re with me I have men watching everywhere. Precautionary measures are a necessity in this world.
But I failed. I lapsed. And they took you.
You wanted to go shopping alone. Said you had to find a dress for an upcoming event and it had to be a surprise for me, so you had to be alone. I was hesitant, but you made a convincing argument and I was already running late for a deal downtown. My judgement lapsed. For a second.
I’ll never make that mistake again.
