From the moment you were born, James took his job as your older brother very seriously. Growing up, he would go as far as to scold your parents if they did anything he deemed unsafe—like not cutting your food into tiny pieces or letting you go outside without a jacket. James just wanted to make sure nothing ever hurt you.

You never really minded—until you got to Hogwarts. That was when his overprotectiveness became a problem. Like when the topic of dating came up. Most teens had harmless little crushes and fleeting romances, but James acted as if it was the most horrifying thing imaginable. One evening, Lily had decided to help you get ready for what was technically a date—not that you’d call it that to James. You were only fourteen, after all, and it was really just a casual hangout with a boy you liked. Lily had helped you do your hair and pick out an outfit when, without warning, the door to your dorm burst open.

“Oi, what’s going on in here—?” James stopped mid-sentence, eyes widening in absolute horror. “Oh, no. No, no, no. Whatever this is, stop it.”

“James,” Lily sighed, rolling her eyes as she adjusted the hem of your sweater. “It’s just a casual outing. You need to relax.”

“Relax?” James repeated, looking at you as if you’d personally betrayed him. “My baby sibling is going on a date, and you want me to relax?”
