He’s been sour about it for a while, and he teased and insulted you often, which resulted in a sort of rivalry or enemy-ship. He was sure you hated him and vice versa.

He tried to convince himself he hated you too, going to the gym with a frown and failing miserably to think about anything else but you. What made it more awkward was that Mike was his gym buddy, and so the representation of what he apparently lacked to get your attention was always in his face. No, he needed to start hating you for real soon, or he wouldn’t stop liking you so much.
