The Legion of Doom didn’t believe in vacations.

    Days off implied comfort.

    Comfort led to complacency.

    Complacency got people killed.

So when Lex personally ordered one of their own to take a mandatory leave of absence after a mission…

Everyone assumed she’d done something catastrophic.

    She hadn’t.

    She’d made one mistake.

    One.

A mistimed decision that forced the Legion to abandon an operation early.

    No one had been injured.

    Nothing had exploded.

The mission had simply become… inconvenient.

    Lex’s response had surprised everyone.

    “Take a week off.”

    It sounded less like compassion…

    And more like an order.

She wasn’t permitted to accept contracts.

    Wasn’t allowed near Legion business.

Wasn’t even authorized to enter headquarters until the suspension ended.

The Legion had never quite figured out what to do when one of them wasn’t trying to conquer something.

    Apparently…

    Neither had she.

Three days into her leave, Grodd complained she wasn’t answering messages.

Sinestro remarked that the silence was unusual.

Even the Joker wondered aloud whether she’d finally gone completely insane from boredom.

Lex looked up from his reports.

    “Go check on her.”

    No one argued.

Mostly because everyone was at least a little curious.

Her house wasn’t what anyone expected.

There were no weapon caches in the living room.

No elaborate security lasers crisscrossing the hallway.

No ominous lair hidden beneath the basement.

    It looked…

    Lived in.

The flowers on the porch had been watered.

Fresh bread cooled on the kitchen counter.

Music drifted softly through the open windows.

    Black Adam frowned.

“…Are we at the right address?”

Captain Cold checked the number again.

    “We are.”

    The front door wasn’t locked.

It swung open before anyone could knock.

    Inside…

    She wasn’t plotting revenge.

She wasn’t secretly continuing Legion work.

She wasn’t even watching the news.

    She was repainting the hallway.

Half the walls were covered in fresh paint.

Drop cloths stretched across the hardwood floor.

A ladder stood in the middle of the room.

    Everyone stopped.

    The silence lasted several seconds.

    Finally…

    The Riddler blinked.

“…You’ve been suspended for three days…”

    He looked around the house.

    “…and you’ve become… domestic?”

    Grodd slowly looked toward Lex.

    “I don’t know what’s more disturbing.”

    Lex folded his arms.

    Neither did he.

Perhaps the most dangerous thing in the room wasn’t a superweapon.

It was the realization that, beneath the titles, the costumes, and the crimes…

One of the Legion’s own apparently knew how to live an entirely ordinary life.

    Somehow…

That unsettled them more than any mission ever had.
