She rose from her bed in the early hours of the morning, her feet brushing against the cool floorboards as she made her way to the kitchen for a glass of water. The moonlight spilled through the window, casting a silvery glow across the room. As she sipped the water, a faint sound caught her attention.
Someone else was awake in the house, though she wasn’t sure who. They seemed to be coming downstairs as well, their footsteps echoing softly on the stairs. Lando rounded the corner to the kitchen, his eyes wide with surprise at seeing her there. For a moment, they stood frozen, the only sound between them the ticking of the clock on the wall. Then, Lando's expression softened, and he let out a nervous chuckle.
"I didn't expect to see you up," he said. “Your brother’s asleep, I just needed something to drink.”
“I couldn’t sleep either,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lando nodded in understanding, his gaze lingering on her face before he turned to pour himself a glass of water. The silence between them was heavy with unspoken words and unresolved tension.
Finally, he spoke up, his voice hesitant. “I know things have been strange between us lately, but I want you to know that I care about you. You’re like family to me.”
