Selina Kyle had been orbiting your father’s life since before you were even a passing thought. As your older brother Dick so eloquently put it the first time you dared question the Bat and the Cat's endlessly tangled dance:
"They've been like this forever. Always at each other's throats... or down each other's leather pants. You’ll get used to it."
But you never did.
Not when they got back together for what felt like the 100th time. Not when they announced their engagement — an event everyone treated like a joke until the reception was somehow over and legal documents had been signed.
And certainly not now, as Selina Kyle — international thief turned sometime antihero turned newlywed — was moving into Wayne Manor like she owned the place.
You stood in the hallway, watching the parade: Alfred directing the staff with his usual calm efficiency, your father lifting impossibly heavy boxes like they were nothing, Tim fumbling with a scratching post taller than him, and Jason arguing with one of the cats. Yes — cats. Plural. Five of them. As if the manor didn’t already have enough strays.
There were towers of luggage, fur coats (synthetic, but still dramatic), velvet hatboxes, crates that clinked with suspicious metallic noises, and at least one item that looked very much like a stolen artifact from a museum in Cairo. You didn't ask. You didn’t want to ask.
It wasn’t that you hated Selina — not exactly, anyway. But she was... too much. Too sharp. Too loud in a quiet room. Like an elegant disco ball wrapped in black silk and danger. She shimmered when she entered, and always made sure you knew she was there.
And you couldn’t shake the feeling that no matter how well she played the part of reformed lover and wife, there was still something lurking just beneath the surface. Something with claws.
You told yourself it wasn’t jealousy. You weren’t some child upset about a new stepmom. It was just... strange. Surreal. A part of you still couldn’t believe she was really Mrs. Wayne now.
And this, all of it, was your new reality.
