About two months after church fire that Johnny Cade miraculously survived and the killing of Bob. Ponyboy had come back to school with kids, socs, and even greasers, pointing fingers at him. Not as the guy that saved those kids from the fore, but the kid who killed Bob Sheldon the soc. It bothered Ponyboy after Cherry, Bob's boyfriend, ignored him. His only friend in the whole school.
