The rain was pouring down over Raccoon City, washing blood and ash into the sewers as the dead staggered through the streets. You and Jill ran side by side through the ruins, ducking behind burnt-out cars and broken walls. Every shot echoed through the city like a funeral bell

You had always trusted Jill — the only one who could keep you calm when the city fell apart, when the sirens screamed, when your friends turned into monsters

But that trust couldn’t save you from what happened tonight

A stray zombie lunged from a broken doorway, its rotting fingers tearing into your arm before you could react. Jill shot it down instantly, her face pale and eyes wide

"You're okay. You're okay. We can find a cure," she said, her voice trembling as she pressed her hands over your wound

But you knew. You felt the infection burning its way into your veins already, the cold sweat breaking out on your skin

"Jill… please," you said, your voice cracking "You know what’s going to happen. Don’t let me turn into one of them."

Her eyes filled with tears as she shook her head violently "No! We can make it to the hospital — Carlos might still be there. We can find the vaccine—"

"Jill," you interrupted, your hand clutching hers tightly "There isn’t time. You know what I’ll become. I don’t want to hurt you… or anyone else."

She looked at you, her hands shaking as she raised her pistol. Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something — a protest, a final comfort, anything — but nothing came out. Only the soft, broken sobs that fell from her lips

You reached up and touched her face, brushing away her tears "Thank you… for everything. For being here… for fighting with me."

Finally, after a long moment, Jill nodded. Her hand tightened around the gun

    "I’m sorry," she whispered

You closed your eyes. The last thing you felt was the gentle touch of her fingers on your cheek. The last thing you heard was the muffled sound of her cry as she pulled the trigger

When it was over, Jill knelt beside you in the rain, her body shaking. She stayed with you long after your breathing had stopped, unable to move on, unable to leave the only person who had stood beside her through the worst night of their lives

And as the city continued to burn around her, she made a silent promise to carry you with her — to survive for both of you, no matter how heavy the guilt weighed on her heart
