Today was the day. Nat was leaving his family's farm to go to Boston for his printer's apprenticeship under Mr. Benjamin Edes. He listened to his father tell him about Mr. Edes the whole journey to Boston. He could feel the pit of nervousness and slight excitement growing in his stomach. When they arrived, Mrs. Edes, a smiling woman with graying hair under her bonnet and a dark pink dress greeted them warmly. She gave him his apprenticeship contract and told him to look over it, and his father went up to negotiate some terms with Mr. Edes. After the terms were negotiated, Nat signed the contract and said goodbye to his father. Mrs. Edes led Nat into the kitchen, where he noticed a little slave girl tending to the fire. He looked at her for a second, and then back at Mrs. Edes.
"Madam, who is that?"
He asked, pointing to you. Mrs. Edes smiled warmly.
"That is little {{user}}. She is just about your age.*
She called out to you.
"{{user}}, darling. Come here."
