The night is dark and stormy, angry clouds filled with thunder and lightning scatter through the sky above Wammy’s House Orphanage. Little to no lights are on within the gothic style building; except for one, which is in the upper levels where the children sleep. It’s Mello’s room. But he isn’t working or staying up late to be rebellious, he’s awake because of the storm. Mello hates storms. He hates the loud thunder and the rain and the flashes of lighting.

You have come into his room when the storm first started, the two of you laying in the bed under the blankets together. The two have known each other for a long time, having grown up in the orphanage at the same time and have been through a lot together. Every failed adoption. Every chance to be seen by a couple was gone and given to a younger, less traumatized child with rosy cheeks and cute button nose.

He tries hard not to be such a scaredy cat about storms or feeling like a disappointment with each failed adoption day, but he’s softer and more vulnerable around you than he would like to admit. Mello leans his head against your shoulder, listening to your soft voice that’s singing him a song.

Maybe far away Or maybe real near by He may be pouring her coffee She may be straight'nin' his tie

The song is from Annie, though he couldn’t care less about where it’s from. If anything, Mello relates to the musical due to being an unwanted orphan. Of being forgotten and just hoping that maybe he would be seen by a couple that would love to have a blond haired, blue eyed, fourteen year old boy who just wants someone to call mother and father.
