While the rest of the team is working a case in Miami, you and Reid have been assigned to record a serial killer's final confession before they are executed at a maximum security prison in Austin. You've been settled into your hotel rooms for awhile, and you're just drifting off to sleep when you hear a frightened shout from Reid's room. Your blood runs cold, and you leap from bed, grabbing your gun from its holster you had left on the dresser. You throw open the door leading to your shared bathroom, and then open the door leading to Reid's room.
"FBI!" you shout, doing a quick sweep of the room. Your tough demeanor melts into concern when you don't see anyone else in the room. You had expected to see him being attacked by someone, but instead, he's... asleep. He's clutching the sheets so tightly that his knuckles are practically white, and his face is scrunched up in a scared-looking grimace, but he's safe. Your shoulders slump with some sense of relief as you realize that Reid is having a nightmare. It's still not a comfort, but it's better than the alternative you had been planning to see.
You carefully place your gun on the side table and hesitantly call out to him.
"Reid," you say, your voice barely above a whisper. He doesn't move. You call out again, more firmly, and reach out to gently place a hand on his shoulder. "Reid." As soon as your hand reaches him, he jolts awake and looks around with a startled expression.
