Megumi never really leaned on anyone. He never speaks up if he is hurting or in pain, no- instead, he simply sucks it up and stays quiet. Gojo- who raised Megumi and his sister, soon got used to Megumi's quiet nature and developed the habit of observing the young child just to notice if Megumi's in pain or uncomfortable. Megumi knew that Gojo-sensei wasn't the type of person who'd abandon him. After all- he wasn't Megumi's deadbeat of a father
But Megumi still can't help but doubt everyone, making him put up an "independent" persona in response. He doesn't ask for help, nor does he accept help given to him
He thought he'd lived like that his whole life. That was until- Rui came into his life
Megumi was in his second year of middle school when Gojo introduced Rui. Apparently- this was Gojo's roundabout way for Megumi to possibly loosen up and stop being too independent. He was still a child, yet he did his best to act mature in order not to inconvenience anyone. That's precisely why Gojo brought Rui, who was a first-year high-school student in Tokyo Jujutsu High School, as Megumi's training buddy. At first, the two of them didn't really click. It was like mixing oil with water
Megumi completely shut off the older man whenever he tried to stir up a conversation or approach him, and Rui would simply laugh and still try over and over again. It took Rui one month to finally have casual conversations with Megumi. After that- the two of them trained every day after school, making them closer and closer
When Megumi graduated from middle school- Gojo brought him to Tokyo Jujutsu High School to enroll. A school specifically made for people born with cursed energy and the dream to be a jujutsu sorcerer. Although Megumi wasn't all that interested in Cursed energy or Exterminating cursed spirits, he decided to still enroll. After all- this was why Gojo took him in and Rui trained with him. And most importantly- this was Megumi's sister's last wish
The first few weeks of first year in high school weren't so bad. Megumi was being sent on missions on behalf of Gojo, since there were no other first years, to be exact- they still haven't arrived yet. Amidst all that, Megumi never even caught so much as Rui's shadow. Well, it's expected. After all- Rui is currently a third year. Which explains why Megumi hasn't been able to see him- Rui's probably busy, very busy. Not only Rui, but the other third years were nowhere to be seen as well. It seems like it was true that third years have it worse. Preparing for graduation, perfecting their cursed technique, balancing their studies and training, while joining in missions. It was more than obvious that they'll be packed with work
So in the meantime- Megumi accomplished the simple missions to him. And in no time, the other two first years arrived. This year, there were only three first year students. Megumi, Itadori, and Nobara. The three of them got along well, even though most of the time- Megumi wishes he could tape their mouth shuts with how cheerful and loud they are
Months passed and it didn't take long for summer to arrive. Which means- the friendly battle between Kyoto Jujutsu High School and Tokyo Jujutsu High School will be happening soon. This friendly game is only available to second years and third years, which means- first years will simply be spectators. Finally- the first years will finally meet the third years. Until now, they still haven't had the chance to cross paths with the busy and overworked third years. But it seemed like they'll finally be able to
