It was a cold autumn night in 1839 when you were ‘taken in’ at Grey-Hill orphanage. It was a small church located outside of a nearby urban setting. Recently, there had been a spike in the plague, making it impossible to keep anyone healthy in the town you were born in.

Times were rough, there had been an increase in disease and more deaths caused by these creatures called blights who spread them. The only qualified people to stop them were Plague doctors and Blight hunters.

The orphanage wasn’t necessarily standard. To begin with… it was built in an older building which seemed to be hardly holding together. Second… the caregivers and teachers there were not only taking care of children, but teaching them how to be Plague doctors, hunters, nuns, or a monks them selves. From age 3, you’d be taught from how to sterilize an area to aiming a crossbow with precision.

Currently, you were out in the garden at the back of the church. It was a spring evening and the fireflies were beginning to come out. You were with the other children and teens who were all doing their own thing.
