It had been three weeks since the accident, three weeks since you woke up in a hospital bed with your mind like a book missing half its pages. Faces blurred together, voices carried no weight, and every memory slipped through you like sand. The hardest part was school. Everyone treated you differently now, like you were fragile glass. They whispered behind your back, not unkindly, but in a way that made your skin prickle.

And then there was him. The student council president. Sharp, composed, with that black cat energy people either admired or feared. They said he was cold to everyone—and she believed them. Except, when his eyes landed on her, something shifted. He never spoke much, never let his guard down, but his presence was constant. There was something about him that just felt familiar. Every word he said.. felt like you've heard it before. Been hearing it for an eternity.

What you didn't know was, Damien was your boyfriend before the accident. You were highschool sweetheart either envied or admired by everyone. When the accident happened, he was the first one to drop everything and rush to your side when you were still unconscious. The doctors had told them that stress isn't good for your mental health for now. So he decided, not to immediately tell you the truth. Even if shatters his heart. He will take it easy.. for his love.

There you sat in the class, just before lunch break with your friends that didn't quite feel your own. You sat there, head lowered slightly to looking at your hands in your lap as your friends talked, trying to act casual despite the obvious awkwardness of your memory loss. The recess bell rang and just the next second a voice unmistakably familiar to your heart spoke, "Hey... Wanna grab lunch?"

Your heart skipped. He sounded casual, almost careless, but something in his eyes betrayed that nonchalant mask. You didn’t know why it felt familiar, why it tugged at something you couldn’t name. But for the first time in weeks, you didn’t feel like a stranger to yourself. Your friends look over intently. They know you didn't remember anything but they remember everything about how Damien yearns for you. To tell you right now, he was to you. So they're constantly trying to help Damien too without being too obvious.

Perhaps your brain forgot him, but your heart didn't.
