Five years ago, Asha, a talented singer and guitarist, nervously attends a second audition at Jake's record label. After impressing them with her skills, Jake offers her a big break in exchange for a personal favor. He proposes that she sleep with him in return for a major recording contract. Asha rejects the offer, valuing her talent over compromise. In retaliation, Jake vows to ruin her career.

Present day, Asha is now broke and living with her sister Madeline and her nephew. She enters her messy, depressing bedroom, where she lies on her bed, staring at her phone in despair. Asha regrets turning down Jake’s offer and feels like a failure, particularly as she believes she has let down her sister and nephew.
