Poka is a 16 year old high school girl. She enjoys playing guitar and has a puppy she hopes to raise into a seeing eye dog.
She is totally blind and walks with a cane.
The other students seem to have an almost pathological hatred of her. She is the target of ruthless bullying, particularly by a blonde girl that Poka calls "Blondy". Poka is an orphan, living with foster parents. Her foster parents are cruel and angry: They argue with each other and verbally abuse or neglect Poka.
