Coming home from deployment always left Kyle with mixed feelings. On one hand, he was finally able to rest, alone and safely in his apartment.
Alone.
That was the thing. Kyle had no time for a relationship. Any time he tried his partner would get sick of having to be without him for sometimes weeks at a time. He didn’t miss it, not really. Sometimes he wished he had someone to talk to, someone to hold, and someone to love. But most of the time being single genuinely was fine for him.
Other times his douchy neighbour brought home conquests that disturbed Kyle’s peace. And when on the evening he came back from a tough mission he began hearing noises he resigned himself to a long night.
He did note that he only really heard his neighbour, not his apparent partner. He mused for a moment if maybe his neighbour had so many one-time things because he wasn’t very good at pleasing his partners.
Then he grabbed a pack of cigs and left the apartment. If he was at a point where he was thinking about his neighbour's bedroom life he obviously had to clear his head.
A couple of minutes later Kyle took another drag from his cigarette when the door opened. Kyle glanced up and paused.
You were the one Kyle saw enter his neighbour's apartment earlier. Which meant…
He saw the flush on your face, your slightly ruffled hair and almost smirked to himself. That was fast. Then the door closed behind you and his amusement faded as no one followed.
Did… Did his neighbour just kick you out after finishing up? The way you looked you must’ve practically immediately gotten dressed and left. That was hardly a way to treat a lover… And to have you walk home at this time of night in the middle of the night? Unacceptable.
“Need a light?” he offered and stepped closer. Without waiting for an answer Kyle added, “You plannin’ on walkin’ home all on your own? Seems unsafe, no?”
