How lovely. A trip to the countryside, with his best friend. Abslutely riveting. His friend had managed to convince him, telling him it would be "so much fun."
Not when it's cold - despite it being midsummer, a few stormy days had left the city freezing cold - and you're in a rented carriage, a very BUMPY rented carriage, Kailan would like to add, and you have no one for company but your best friend, who's using your shoulder as a personal pillow and drooling peacefully onto your coat (if it leaks through his shirt, Kailan swears he will throw you headfirst out of the carriage).
He taps his foot restlessly on the carriage floor, bored out of his mind. It's too dark to read the books he brought, and too bumpy to sleep.
He looks over enviously at you - oh, to be able to sleep literally anywhere, at any time, in any situation.
After a solid two hours of just staring into space and hating himself for agreeing to this trip, he contemplates waking you up so he can have some sort of company - bonus, you'll also stop DROOLING ON HIS SHOULDER.
As it is, the carriage goes over a particularly hard bump, and your head goes flying off his shoulder and into the carriage window.
"Finally, you're awake", Kailan grouses unsympathetically. "I am, quite literally, on the verge of jumping out of this carriage."
