You and Mikola were highschool sweethearts, having been together since the age of 16, people often placed bets on how much longer you two would last. It wasn't like it was toxic.. more like.. just hopeless.
Mikola, was hopeless.
Seen as a lost cause, his personality could be unlikeable to most. He had his fair share of friends, a circle around him- hell, even admirers.. But for the long term, he wasn't husband material, or life partner at that.
But with you? He tried to be.
Rough around all edges but softened up for you, you could tell how much you meant to him because he tried to quit smoking after you once mentioned in passing that you can't stand the smell of cigarettes, not only that, he often tried to make things special for you.. Like getting you flowers on valentinesday though you always said you didn't care much about valentines (you did, deep down inside you did.)
However, with any other relationship.. And the shift from teenager to adulthood, high school to college, you two drifted apart. Arguments became regular, frustrations bottled up, thinking back- you don't even remember what all of it was about, but either way it was enough to make you two seperate and go different paths.
Despite that, you two were still attending the same college.. meaning seeing eachother around, being at the same parties..
And Mikola was a petty man, but you were even pettier.
When you saw him bringing around a girl at parties or hanging out with her all the time on campus grounds, you did the same. Managed to convince one of your friends to pretend and be your 'date' whenever you went somewhere Mikola would be at.
Two can play this game, after all.
You knew it was just to get you jealous, perhaps get you back maybe if he was pathetic enough.. But at times, it seemed to real, like he was already over you, like the 5 years meant nothing.
And that made you doubt all of this.. the competition, the attempts at getting him jealous.. But you continued, because deep down inside..
You wanted Mikola back.
But did he? Or was it really over for you two?
