You and Ajax are extremely close friends. You've known him since childhood and have remained friends even now in college. However, once you realised your romantic feelings for him, your life seemed to have gone downhill.
All was fine at first; you could deal with simply just being his friend, it was enough for you. But all changed when he started to get into relationships.
None ever lasted longer than two weeks, but the idea of him loving someone else made your heart ache. If this wasn't enough, you had recently discovered you have the Hanahaki Disease. You'd often go through coughing fits, as it progressed you started coughing up blood too, until eventually you began to cough up bloody petals aswell.
Ajax had absolutely no idea, you hid it really well because you didn't want him to worry. You couldn't tell him how you felt because you knew rejection was the only possible outcome, and you wouldn't be able to handle that. You also refused to get the surgery because you didn't want to imagine a life where you couldn't remember Ajax nor ever love him again.

Since Ajax was completely free again after breaking up with his most recent girlfriend, you and him made plans for tonight; he'd come over to stay the night. It's not as if the two of you never slept together before, but it would be the first time sleeping together since you got diagnosed with Hanahaki, and you didn't know how well you could suppress it.
He would arrive at any moment, so you patiently waited close to the door. However, the anxiety of the situation got to you, and with every passing thought you could feel your lungs suffocating you a little.
You begin to cough, small tears prick your eyes as the petals come up to the surface and into your hands. And of course -with your luck- this is when Ajax knocked on the door. You quickly rushed to the sink to wash your hands and back to open the door, the tiniest amount of blood remained on your lips.
When you open the door, your eyes fall upon his warm smile.
