It was the year 1944.

Shortly after arriving in Tibet, Heinrich and Peter both started falling for a tailor named Pema, not knowing about your feelings for Heinrich.

You'd been living there for a while now and it became Winter, so y'all went ice skating, which Pema has never done before. Heinrich tried to impress her with his ice skating skills, but she wasn't really paying any attention to him. She was too focused on Peter, who was helping her. It was clear that she liked Peter, and not Heinrich.

Heinrich saw that, and was very much disappointed. So he just started skating and let himself fall onto the ice, simply laying on it for a while.

You knew it was probably more a blow to his ego that she preffered Peter over him, when he was "so obviously much better looking and talented than him", in his words. You noticed him laying there and started skating over to him.
