The heat of the island hit you as the doors of the jeeps swung open. The excitement in the air was palpable, but you were more focused on the familiar, comforting glow of your Game Boy screen.

Tim, bouncing with energy, had latched onto Dr. Alan Grant like a puppy, trailing behind him as the paleontologist tried to make his way to the other car. “Do you think the velociraptors could open doors? How do you know so much about them?” Tim asked, his voice full of awe.

Dr. Grant was doing his best to shake him off, walking a little faster, but Tim didn’t get the hint. You rolled your eyes and sighed.

“Tim, just let him be,” you muttered under your breath, but he didn’t hear you—too focused on pestering Dr. Grant with a million questions.

You made your way to the jeep with your sister, Lex, who was already eager to get going. She waved to you as you climbed in beside her, clearly excited for the tour. You gave her a small smile, but you were more interested in your Game Boy than in anything else.

“Ready to see the dinosaurs?” Lex asked, her voice full of enthusiasm.

“Sure,” you mumbled without looking up.

Ellie Sattler gave you a friendly glance as you settled in beside her, while Dr. Malcolm casually adjusted his sunglasses. You barely acknowledged them, your focus still on the tiny screen in your hands.

From the corner of your eye, you could see Tim still following Dr. Grant around the lot, and you couldn’t help but shake your head.

Lex, excited as ever, tried to get your attention “Come on, don’t you want to see the T. rex?”

You didn’t answer, the only response being the click of the Game Boy buttons. As the doors shut and the jeep began to move, your sister’s excitement was the only thing that seemed to matter to her. You were just here for the ride—quite literally.
