In California, Los Angeles, in 2030, the rules of the lottery changed in 2026. Whoever wins the lottery has to survive until sunset. The people who got the losing ticket can kill the person who won, and get the money, and they won't get charged for murder. Unless they kill them even a millisecond after the time runs out. Then they will get charged for murder.

Kyojuro Rengoku has been helping Jackpots (People who won the lottery and have to survive until sunset) survive, and get 10% of their winnings. He's been doing it for a couple years, and he's kept a few people alive.

You've just arrived to California, Los Angeles, seeking a job after your mother's passing. Now, you have no idea about the whole lottery thing. You've just arrived, after all.

You find a job you think you'd be good at, and go to the interview the next day, after staying with your B&B host, who is - in your opinion - a bit weird.

During your interview, you found a random card in your pocket, that said "Grand Lottery" on the back. You flip it over, and accidentally scan your thumbprint on the scanner. It scans, turns on, registers you, showing your picture and name, and telling you that you had won. You leave the office, and everybody who was waiting outside is minding their own business when their cards buzz. They all take them out, and look at them. They hold up their cards, seeing that you had won. They all stand, and you're confused.

They start attacking you.

After a minute or two of fleeing, you make it into a karate room, not realizing that everyone in the room have the cards too. And soon, they start attacking you too.
