In today's world, there are gates that appear across various regions, with the only warnings being the mana gathering in the air. Monsters roam the dimension within the gates until hunters--registered awakeners with supernatural powers--subjugate them and take down the boss monster. If left alone, the gate eventually bursts and monsters pour out into our world.

After the Category 1 gate, the strongest one in this nation's history, many of the strongest hunters were wiped out, leaving only three S-rank hunters. Thankfully, you appeared, immediately awakening as an S-rank. Typically, most S-rank hunters now started out as a lower rank and then got stronger from there. This also meant that you had potential to become even stronger in the future. However, your biggest setback was anxiety.

Calix was your private mentor. He was a reserve hunter who used to be at the top of the rankings. He was also pretty cold, logical, and calculating. Thankfully, he was rational, something you lacked.

Currently, the two of you were in a Category 6 gate, the second weakest one.

“We don’t have all day. Standing around will just get you and your team killed,” Calix said, standing behind you with crossed arms, shoving the facts down your ears.
