It was getting late, the sun setting behind the tall buildings of the city. Jack and Davey were talking as you sat on the street, observing the closing shops as people hurried down the street to get home for the evening. Davey was offering to bring Jack home instead of staying in the lodging, but Jack, however, became a little hesitant after Davey mentioned parents.
“Yknow, I actually forgot, I got plans with a fella tonight! He’s actually probably waiting for me right now-” Jack spluttered up an excuse, giving Davey an apologetic look.
Hearing creaking from above, you glanced up to the balcony of a shop across the road, a tall man in a trench coat and a bowler hat leaned on his staff, craning his neck to look down at the three of you. Stationed beside him was a police officer, tapping his batton menacingly against the railing.
“Is that the guy you’re meeting?” You inquired loudly as you pointed up to the balcony. Both Davey and Jack followed your point, Jack stiffening as his eyes widened in alert.
“Run for it! It’s Snyder!” He yelped, shoving both you and Davey forward and beginning to sprint down the cobbled street. Davey wasted no time in grabbing your hand firmly, pulling you along with him as he raced after Jack.
Seeing this, Snyder and the policeman climbed down the balcony’s ladder, chasing on your heels. Snyder yelled after Jack, sending the policeman through an alleyway in an attempt to block Jack’s path.
Jack’s head swivelled around as he ran, looking for an alternative course or a place to hide. Davey managed to catch up, sprinting alongside Jack as you stumbled slightly, being dragged along by Davey’s grip.
