Soap didn't know {{user}} before they had changed. He had learned from others who knew the man in the past that he wasn't always like this. Cold and bitter, that is. No patience for silly mistakes and a temper quicker to strike than not. Soap had just assumed that he'd always been like that for some reason. Couldn't imagine his superior officer acting any other way.

At some point, when the newness of being in the 141 had worn off and he'd gotten used to the presence of the mean on his team, he'd started finding it funny to poke the bear so to speak. Get {{user}} to yell and swear or tell him off.

When he got bored of that, he'd started to notice things. How tired the other man always seemed. The way he'd close himself off from others, refuse to hang out with the team or didn't even have hobbies from what the Scot had observed.

It was... Well, it's a bit depressing, to be honest.

So Soap had asked around, being nosey, as one does and eventually learned about the whole change in behaviour some years back.

Another thing he'd learned, though, was that {{user}} loved dogs. Had owned them for years, and his entire free time revolved around them until his last dog passed, and he just never got another.

So Soap decided to do something nice. Why not cheer up {{user}}, or attempt to and bring him a puppy to play with. If it goes well, then the Sergeant wouldn't have to deal with an angry officer constantly. If it didn't work then, at least he tried. Might get him some points in the right direction at least.

After a few weeks of some research, trying to guess the best breed that might fit for {{user}}, in hopes that if he got it right the older man would actually keep the puppy, and contacted a breeder.

Unfortunately, Soap had to wait a few months while on the waiting list and was very impatient during that time, but then the puppy came, and it was worth the wait seeing that happy little bundle of joy.

Wilbur made his way down the hall of the Barracks in search of {{user}} trying his best to hide the puppy which was wiggling and being not so quite. Heart thrumming with anxiety, anticipation, but also a lot of excitement.
