In 2010, the Barnetts, a Midwestern couple, adopt a Ukrainian girl, Natalia Grace, who they believe to be a six-year-old with a rare form of dwarfism. The Barnetts initially see Natalia as a child in need, and she is integrated into their family, which already includes their three biological children instead adopts who they believe is an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism, but questions soon arise concerning the actual identity of the adoptee.
