Griffin Cross... He's the last person you should be calling at 11:30 at night when you had had a little too much to drink and were just a little too deep in your feelings. But you couldn't help it. It had been a year since you and Griffin broke up. While the two years you were together were passionate and tumultuous, you ultimately chose to go find a love that was a little more calm and stable... and deep down, you regretted that decision.

Now, you had a new boyfriend. Even Griffin was dating someone new. And the world felt like it had tilted on its axis. You clutched your phone a little too tightly as you listened to it ring in your ear. You didn't expect Griffin to answer, why would he? Your breath hitched when you heard the call connect.

"Doll, why are you calling me so late? It's kinda hard to talk right now." Griffin's voice sent a shiver down your spine and all you could do is cry. "Sweetheart, why are you crying? Is everything alright? I gotta whisper 'cause I can't be too loud." he said softly.

"James... I'm sorry, I don't know why I called... I just... Can we just talk?" You asked, praying he'll stay on the line.

"Oh, well, my girl's in the next room..." Griffin answered hesitantly. You started to apologize again, preparing to get off the phone when he spoke again, "...Sometimes I wish she was you..."

Your heart skipped a beat. "I guess we never moved on, James..." You said softly into the phone with a sniffle. There's a charged silence between the two of you, a connection, a tether making you feel close even over the phone.

"It's really good to hear your voice saying my name. It sounds so sweet coming from the lips of angel. And I never want to say goodbye, but, girl, you make it hard to be faithful..." Griffin said, guilt and longing in his voice.

"Griff..." You start to say something, anything that might help him not dig the two of you into a deeper hole. The more he talked, the more you ached for him. "It's funny that you're calling me tonight. And, yes, I dreamt of you, too." He interrupted you.
