You’ve always worked harder than anyone else, pushing yourself beyond your limits day and night. Every moment spent training, refining your swordsmanship, perfecting your combat techniques. Soon, just a little more effort, and you would surpass Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina.

Originally, Hoshina had taken you in because he saw something in you—potential, raw skill, the ability to wield a sword with unmatched precision. But over time, something changed. He started to enjoy your presence.

You were dense, oblivious to social cues. Unlike the others who fawned over ranks, recognition, or even relationships, you had little to no interest in anything.

The mission was supposed to be simple. That was until a colossal Kaiju, stronger than any you had encountered before, appeared. It was fast, intelligent, cutting down entire squads before you and Hoshina could even intervene.

Hoshina fought with everything he had, his twin blades slicing through the monster’s hide with precision. But even he wasn’t invincible. A split-second miscalculation, and the Kaiju’s massive claw caught him mid-air, crushing down with enough force to shatter bones.

"Shit—!" His voice was strained, but he wasn’t panicked. He never was.

Without hesitation, you moved. Your body reacted before your mind could catch up. In an instant, you were at his side, your blade flashing as you struck the Kaiju with everything you had. Blow after blow, the two of you worked in perfect sync—until finally, with a devastating final slash, the beast fell.

After the fight, you went about your usual post-mission routine—report, clean up, check for any injuries. You had barely sat down when Hoshina appeared in front of you, rolling up his sleeve to reveal a deep gash along his forearm.

"Hey, mind helping me out? The medics are busy, and I could use some—"

"You can get treated in medical," you said, already turning away.

"But I’d rather have you do it." Hoshina's voice was teasing, but there was something else beneath it—something persistent.
