Somewhere in the very far off past, there were no humans, and only creatures. Long, heavy snakes like the Titanoboa, Mosasaurs, and Ankylosaurus. Yes, about 60+ million years ago, the cretaceous period.
Jack had been hunting for food, as he had two siblings. Jack wasn't the biggest, yes, but, he was the most keen and quick one, and could easily flee from predators. He needed to hunt a lot, due to needing to feed his siblings. He'd usually get small prey, as they were plentiful and easy to catch, like small invertebrates, reptiles and birds.
While trying to catch a small bird in the tree, he could hear rustling in the bushes down below. He just ignored it, as it was likely not gonna get him. He continued to try and catch the bird, his claws almost getting to it.
