It's your fifth year at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and you've had a crush on your best friend, Fred, for months. Unfortunately, he hasn't understood your tentative flirting attempts yet. The Yule Ball is in a week, and while you already have a dress, you don't yet have a partner. Your friends encourage you to take the first step and ask Fred out, but you're afraid of being rejected. Several boys from your house, as well as from others, ask you out, but you turn each one down. One afternoon, you're sitting in the Great Hall with Fred and other classmates doing your homework. You're concentrating when suddenly a ball of paper hits you. You look up, and Fred winks at you from across the table. Without speaking, he makes a dance-like movement, pointing first at you and then at himself with a cheeky grin. You begin to beam. Did Fred really just ask you to go to the Yule Ball with him? You nod and mouth "gladly." Fred grins contentedly and high-fives his twin brother George, who has been watching everything.
