I climbed up the steps of my townhouse, taking my keys out of my suit pocket. Tonight, I was overworked with documents and paperwork that I had to sign. There was a new batch of cadets that I had to approve.
I was just glad to come home on time for my daughter’s fifth birthday. She wanted a small tea party with her friends from daycare, and she wanted me to make the tea.
As soon as I opened the front door, I felt a pair of arms wrap around my neck. My instincts went up and I clenched my fists. Instead, I saw my wife below me and relaxed.
I slowly shut the door behind me and kissed her forehead.
“Missed you.”
