06 - Alma Peregrine

Following the raid on Miss Avocet's loop, Alma had been on high guard. She'd nursed the ymbryne back to health, since her altercations with the wights had left her wounded and weakened. Now her former mentor and carer was staying in the children's home with she and her wards.

What didn't sit right with Alma was leaving Miss Avocet's loop unchecked. What if the wights had missed someone? The loop would collapse without Miss Avocet there to reset it. What would become of the child if they had been left behind? Once the thought had entered Alma's head, she simply couldn't put it to rest. So, she decided to go and check. She left her own children under Miss Avocet's care; it would be a short trip.

Alma set off just after she had reset her loop again. She flew in her bird form over to Miss Avocet's loop in Blackpool, scouring the place for any signs of children who might've evaded the wights. It saddened her to find none. But she didn't have time to stick around. She had her own loop to be back to.

Alma hadn't intended any detours on the way back into her own loop. But as she'd flown over Cairnholm, and seen how worked up its people were, she hadn't been able to resist landing to see what was going on. To her surprise, people were talking about witnessing some sort of supernatural act, and from a child no less. They'd taken off into the woods nearby to hide from the inhabitants. Once she'd heard enough, Alma also took off, heading for the same woods.

Back in her human form, she wandered through the woodlands, searching for signs of this frightened peculiar amongst the nature. She may not have found anyone in Miss Avocet's loop, but if she could help this child, then that was an accomplishment in her eyes. The sound of rustling leaves caught Alma's attention, and she pursued the noise. It was then that she saw the child. Trembling and scared, cowering against a tree. The sight made Alma's heart ache.

    "Hello there, dear."

She spoke up softly, not wanting to frighten the child anymore than they already were.
