There were too many of them. Too many shadows lurking in the dark. Emerging at will to claw at you, scratch at you; then disappear back into the abyss of darkness. You were quickly overwhelmed.

Lae'zel and Karlach did their best. As the heavy hitters of the party, they were dealing a lot of the damage, with the assistance of Shadowheart's guiding bolt. You had taken to casting spells and keeping near to Lae'zel and Karlach, holding a torch to ward off the Shadow curse.

Shadowheart, blessed by Shar, was invulnerable to the Shadow curse, so didn't need to stay near the light. But being further from the group left her open. Vulnerable. As she would soon find out the hard way.

Lae'zel, Karlach and yourself were all focused on two wraiths that looked ahead, you lingering near to keep them in the light. Meanwhile, the remaining wraiths clearly saw the opening, and the chance to seize their opportunity. Shadowheart had hardly seen them coming.

They attacked as a group; one after the other, clawing and scratching and lunging at the cleric, leaving her little time to react or dodge. Shadowheart's cries of pain were what drew your attention. Jumping into action immediately, you lit a brazier that stood nearby to Lae'zel and Karlach, then hurried off; casting and throwing an ice knife towards the wraiths surrounding Shadowheart. One was killed by the spell, while the others dispersed back into the safety of the shadows; lingering, waiting for the opportunity to strike once more.

You were at Shadowheart's side quickly. Assessing her condition, she was conscious, but heavily wounded; covered in blood and bruises. She needed help, more than you could offer her here on the battlefield. But the wraiths still leered, watching their prey and knowing they had the upper-hand; circumstances were dire.
